Terms and conditions
| Age requirement | Both the driver and the person responsible for the agreement must be at least 23 years old. |
| Valid driving licence | Must be presented when the vehicle is collected. |
| Exceptions | Only by written agreement with Rent a Car Tromsø. |
| Driving outside Norway | Let us know in advance if you plan to drive outside Norway, for example to Sweden or Finland, so that we know where the car is. The renter is financially responsible for any damage, running off the road or breakdown outside Norway. |
| Free mileage | All rental cars come with unlimited mileage, with no per-kilometre charge. |
| Road tolls | Road tolls are included in the rental. |
| Additional driver | Included at no extra charge. All drivers must meet the age requirement and present a valid licence. |
The rental car is delivered with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank.
Important: Misfuelling is not covered by the insurance and is charged to the renter in full.
Payment is made in Norwegian kroner (NOK). Losses due to exchange rates are not covered by the lessor. This also applies to cancellations and refunds of paid rent.

| Card problems | If the card is declined or fails validation, the renter is contacted by e-mail and has 48 hours to correct the issue before the reservation is deleted and the car can be booked by others. |

The responsible renter must treat the car as their own throughout the rental period, and is fully responsible for all violations and costs arising during the rental period, including:
- Parking violations and parking fees
- Speeding fines
- Ferry tickets
- Towing and recovery costs
- Other fees or violations
Payment deadline: The renter is responsible for paying all fees within the given deadlines. Late payment fee: Rent a Car Tromsø charges NOK 250,- for late payment. Unpaid claims are followed up with reminders and may be passed on to a debt collection agency. Reminder and collection fees at the applicable statutory rates are added.
Maintenance under way: Checking oil level, coolant etc. is the renter's responsibility. Damage caused by neglecting these checks is charged to the renter.
Snow chains are not permitted on vehicles from Rent a Car Tromsø.
In case of engine trouble or an accident: contact Rent a Car Tromsø immediately. If the car breaks down or has a technical fault that is not caused by the renter, we will help you. Recovery and towing are not covered by the insurance. In the event of driving off the road or other damage the renter is responsible for, the renter must order and pay for a recovery vehicle themselves. In the event of an accident or damage, the renter must fill in a damage report form. The mandatory deductible in an insurance case is up to NOK 10,000,- (standard insurance) / NOK 0,- (extended insurance), except in cases of gross negligence or careless conduct. The insurance type is stated on the rental order/contract.
Long distances: The further you are from Tromsø, the longer it may take for help to arrive. Bring enough clothes, food and drink in the car, especially in winter, in case of an accident or a closed road.

Note: tyre, wheel and glass damage is not covered by the insurance, regardless of whether you have standard or extended insurance.
The insurance does NOT cover:
- Recovery vehicle
- Glass and window damage (incl. windscreen)
- Misfuelling
- Roof damage caused by standing/climbing on the roof
- Tyre and wheel damage
- Lost key
- Engine damage caused by ignored warnings (high temperature, low oil level, etc.)
- Failure to report damage, even if the damage is covered by insurance
- Damage caused by negligent conduct
- Damage where the driver is unfit to drive (see section 7b)
The insurance is void in its entirety if the driver, at the time of the damage, is unable to drive a motor vehicle in a responsible manner. This applies, among other things, if the driver falls asleep at the wheel, is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication, if the police report that the driver is unfit to drive, or if witnesses report driving that indicates a lack of driving ability. This also applies with extended insurance. In such cases the renter is fully financially responsible for all damage.
| Cleaning | The car must be returned in reasonable condition. Excessive soiling (large amounts of dirt, rubbish, empty bottles etc.) is charged NOK 500,- for extended cleaning. |
| Fuel | If the tank is not full on return, the renter is charged for the missing fuel and a fee of NOK 500,-. |
| Deductible for damage | An unpaid deductible is invoiced to the renter: NOK 10,000,- (standard) / NOK 0,- (extended insurance). |
| All groups, free period | 24 hours free cancellation from the time of booking (does not apply to bookings made less than 48 hours before the rental starts). |
| Standard (except P and R) | Fee NOK 600,- for cancellation more than 48 hours before the rental starts; the full rental amount for cancellation less than 48 hours before. |
| Groups P and R (minibus) | Fee NOK 600,- for cancellation more than 4 weeks before the rental starts; the full rental amount for cancellation less than 4 weeks before. The free period does not apply to bookings within 4 weeks. |
| Uncollected car | If you do not show up and have not agreed otherwise with us in advance, the booking is cancelled 3 hours after the agreed pickup time. |
| Force majeure | Rent a Car Tromsø reserves the right to cancel in the event of a breakdown, if no replacement car is available. |
